Curated by Moor Mother

Fela Gucci and Desire Marea are on a mission. As performance art duo, FAKA could just as easily be labeled as a cultural movement. With a combination of sound, live performance, literature, video and photography, FAKA are defenders of black queer culture. At the same time, they endeavor to re-shape South African contemporary culture and identity. The duo’s latest EP ‘Amaqhawe’ features a idiosyncratic, upbeat approach of ‘gqom’ - a raw, minimal version of African house music - and explores the intricacies of black queer love.
