Listed by NPR as one of the Top 100 Young Composers of today, Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab carries in her music a seasoned tranquility that inspires calm to whoever listens. Inspired by the work of Sufi poets and musicians that came before her, the Brooklyn-based, Berkeley-trained musician searches for the same feelings Sufi poetry often inspires; ‘peace, patience, simplicity’. Her latest record, this year’s ‘Vulture Prince’, garnered high praise from Pitchfork, Songlines and others.
